So, Avril Lavigne is the most popular Canadian musician on Facebook.
Wait, rewind. What?
The social networking site has revealed that the blond wannabe misfit is the site's third most popular musician -- behind Rihanna and Bob Marley (yeah, you heard right) -- based on her number of "likes," her profile growth, and popularity in the media.
The results may come as a surprise, considering Canuck singer Justin Bieber has received far more ''likes." Despite being only the ninth most searched person in Canada, Selena Gomez's main man has 28 million "likes" and 800,000 people talking about him, edging out Lavigne's 27.6 million "likes" and 300,000 talkers. Also, Lavigne's tour for her latest album, "Goodbye Lullabye," has reportedly attracted a "sparse" crowd.
But when it comes to the media, Lavigne has Bieber beat. A news story in September reported an Illinois man killing his mother over a ticket to Lavigne's show, an event that occurred in 2008. Then, in November 2011, the Napanee native and boyfriend Brody Jenner made headlines of their own after getting involved in a bar fight in Hollywood. Jenner needed stitches after being attacked in the face with a bottle, while Lavigne tweeted a photo of her own injuries.
"I don't fight. I don't believe in it. To clear things up I got attacked by 5 people last night out of nowhere. Not cool. My face is f*****," she tweeted. "As in black eye, bloody nose, hair ripped out, scratches, bruises and cuts. So not ok to be abusive to others. Violence is NEVER the answer."
She may not fight, but Lavigne is not averse to throwing tantrums. In May she was criticized for launching an expletive-filled attack when a technical glitch interrupted her scheduled performance during a Tampa Bay Rays baseball game. "We just had so much fun tonight, and we want to take the tirade out and say thank you to the Tampa Bay Rays!" she said before the gig was up. "I'm truly sorry if anyone was offended by my language."
Lavigne had her dukes up again in September, this time to fight pregnancy rumours after she wore a loose-fitting black poncho while shopping. The songstress quickly dispelled the rumour, but the Internet had already lit up with the story.
With any luck, next time Lavigne will really be pregnant. That's got to land her the top spot on Facebook again, right?
