Two Thirds of Men Let Their Wives Dress Them

Shine from Yahoo! Canada

Lots of men could use a few style pointers, and often they rely on their female partners to help them shop for clothing. But we had no idea how many guys were completely dependent on their wives to get dressed each day. According to the Daily Mail, men's fashion website Style Pilot surveyed 1,000 full-time employed men ages 18 to 60 on their fashion habits, and the results were shocking.

Apparently two thirds of men rely on their wife or significant other to choose their work clothes for them. Half of those surveyed admitted to also being physically dressed by their partner, such as helping put on their tie. Really? We know the average guy doesn't take as much interest in his appearance as a woman, but grown men should be able to dress for work on their own... shouldn't they?

What's more surprising is 30% of men are told what to wear or have clothing purchased for them by their mother. And 17% have their wardrobe dictated by their mother-in-law! Perhaps they're just trying to avoid arguments, because 17% of men said they listen to a women's opinion of clothing "for an easy life."

As for their fashion confidence, 20% of men felt their style could be improved, 12% said their bad fashion sense holds them back, and 7% were downright embarrassed by their wardrobe. Lucky for these fellas, we're always happy to help them look their best!

"Many men want to be better dressed, but lack style knowledge and confidence," a spokesman for StylePilot.com told the Daily Mail. "That's why millions of men are relying on other women in their lives - particularly their wives or partners - to help choose what to wear to work, so they look good not just at work but for other occasions. Many men feel like they're stuck in a style rut and don't know where to begin when it comes to sorting out their fashion sense."

StylePilot is an online style advisor, and they said a big factor at play is that "most men hate traipsing around shops on a Saturday, facing crowds and busy changing rooms." Oh, this we know. Every tried to drag your man into a department store or a mall on the weekend? We're betting he'd rather wait in the car.

Style Pilot also said, "while [men] may judge their friends when they step out in something new, many are in fact jealous of their style but fear being ridiculed if they wear something out of their comfort zone." We've seen this behavior as well. Sometimes we'll suggest a new look for our guys, but they're not confident wearing it until they get the approval of a male pal.

Now it's time to fess up: does your man have good style? Do you buy him clothes or lay out his outfits for him, or does he dress well on his own?
