TTC driver suspended for chasing assault suspect
A TTC driver who abandoned his streetcar to chase a man who allegedly assaulted a passenger has been relieved of duty.
Amalgamated Transit Workers Union Local 113 president Bob Kinnear called the decision “absurd” and said the driver should be “commended” for his split-second decision to give chase to an alleged sex attacker.
But TTC spokesman Brad Ross said policy states the driver should stay with the streetcar, and while the driver has not been fired, he has been relieved of duty. Ross denied a sexual assault occurred, saying instead it was an assault between a man and a woman.
