By Victoria Walsh | The Perfect Bite Canada
Where should you go when you're struck with a craving for fries? Check out this roundup of the top fast-food French fries in Canada. We braved the grease and calories (oh, the calories!) to find the ultimate fast-food fry — great potato flavour, delightfully salted, and crisp. All prices are approximate.
These long and thin fries are salted with a heavy hand - perfect if you're into that! They're golden with their potato skins on. Top points for Wendy's updated version of this classic burger side!
Cost: $2 for a small
If you love: Crispy
Try: A&W's Fries
Their surprisingly crisp exterior surrounds soft potato flesh and isn't too oily. They're "lightly" salted, which allows you to add more to suit your taste. And there's something nostalgic about these fries — they've had the same reliably satisfying crunch for years.

These lightly crisp fries are loaded with fresh potato flavour — skins and all. They're not very salty, which makes them the perfect base for one of this New York Fries' many topping options, including sauces and seasoned salt. They also have a great poutine made with fresh-tasting real cheddar cheese curds and thick dark gravy. Extra points for some of their more exotic options like Butter Chicken Poutine.
Cost: $3 for a small order of plain fries
These classic fries are on our list because they're undeniably addictive. Why? It's hard to pinpoint. Maybe it's because they're on the salty side, or because their fluffy insides are more sweet than potato-like. One thing is for certain: it's hard to stop devouring these once you get going.
Cost: $2 for a small
With a distinct potato flavour, these fries are pure Canadian comfort food. The skins and fresh-cut look make them seem homemade — and who can resist that yummy Chalet dipping sauce? The only downside is that when you get them delivered, they've had too much time to steam and aren't very crisp. That's fine; they're still seriously tasty.
Cost: $2.50 for a side order
