Speedy construction in China or how to build a hotel in 15 days
|
Good News
Broad Group, a Chinese sustainable building firm, recently built a 30-storey hotel — in just 15 days. It was completed on December 31st, 2011.
The following time-lapse video catches the 360-hour, 17,000-square-metre project near Dongting Lake, in Hunan Province.
The earthquake-resistant — the building can withstand a 9.0-magnitude quake — and energy-efficient design owes its speedy construction to prefabricated sections delivered to the work site.
"The building has a reinforced steel core built over a driven pile. And this building has all the floors built around it. Using steel frameworks attached to the central column the pre-fabricated floorings are laid," CrazyEngineers' Niranjana Sridharudu writes.
"This prefabricated building system works much like the Kenner Girder and panel building set of my childhood; completely wired, plumbed, tiled and drywalled prefabricated sections are dropped on top of the columns that come complete with diagonal bracing, and then another column is stuck on top," TreeHugger's Lloyd Alter explains.

Broad Group's previous record? They built the 15-storey "The New Ark Hotel" in just six days.
