It’s one of the biggest fashion runways of the awards season: the Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet in Los Angeles was a chance for Hollywood’s leading ladies to shine in the latest couture frocks.
The night’s top winner was the cast of American Hustle by David O. Russell.
Bradley Cooper accepted the Best Ensemble Cast award on behalf of a line-up that included Christian Bale, Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence.
The 1970’s crime comedy leads the list for the Academy Awards with 10 nods including Best Picture and Best Director.
Best Actor went to Matthew McConaughey for his role as a homophobic AIDS activist in “Dallas Buyers Club”. Co-star Jared Leto won Best Supporting Actor for his turn as transsexual side-kick Rayon. Both actors impressed the jury with their extreme weight-loss for the film.
Australian Cate Blanchett won Best Actress for her part in Woody Allen’s “Blue Jasmine”. Blanchett is also a top contender for the Oscars.
Rising star Lupita Nyong’o won Best Supporting Actress for her role in “12 Years a Slave”, for which she has also won an Oscar nomination.
“My dad, I called him, he was the first person I called when I got this role. And I said to him, ‘Do you know Brad Pitt? I’m going to be in a movie with him,‘ and he said ‘I don’t know him personally, but I’m glad you got a job.‘ So am I, so am I. Thank you,” said the Kenyan actress and film director.
The SAG Awards are seen as a reliable barometer of future Oscar success. The Academy Awards will be announced on 2 March.
