Qantas offers free flights after grounding fleet
The Associated Press-
Qantas Airways is offering free flights to apologize to passengers stranded when the Sydney-based fleet was grounded last weekend during a dispute with its labour unions.
Chief executive officer Alan Joyce says the ticket offer is one of a range of initiatives to say "sorry."
Passengers whose journeys were disrupted during the airline's two-day grounding of flights are entitled to a free return economy flight within Australia or to New Zealand over a two-year period starting on Dec. 14.
About 80,000 passengers were affected worldwide when Qantas grounded 108 aircraft late last month in a successful attempt to end rolling strikes by pilots, engineers and baggage handlers.
Union officials said they launched the work stoppages to fight an airline restructuring plan they say will move jobs overseas.
A court stopped the work actions Monday and the airline resumed flying last Monday.
