Police ask for public’s help in identifying man from two gas thefts
|
Halifax police are asking the public to help identify a man they say stole gas twice from the same station.
The thefts happened at the Kearney Lake Road Petro Canada on Aug. 10 and 18. In both cases, a man driving a dark-coloured Pontiac four-door sedan with a tinted rear window and no license plate filled his tank and then took off.
On Wednesday, police released surveillance camera images of the man at the station pumping gas. He’s described as being in his 20s with a thin build, wearing a dark baseball cap and sunglasses each time. We do receive a fair number of thefts of gas from across HRM, but every now and then there are cases that stand out,” said police spokesman Const. Brian Palmeter as to why they took the step of releasing the man’s image. “In this case we put the same individual at the same gas station at the same pump driving the same car, doing the same thing.”
Palmeter estimates there are between 60 and 70 thefts from gas stations in the Halifax area each month, the bulk of which come from people pumping gas and not paying for it.
In some cases, it can come down to the person simply forgetting to pay, but Palmeter doesn’t believe that’s the case here.
“The evidence seems to suggest that he’s well aware of what he’s doing, given the fact there’s no license plate on the car and he has sunglasses on.”
Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact police on Crime Stoppers. http://metronews.ca/news/halifax
