Los Angeles gears up for Grammys
|
Whether they will get lucky with their catchy single remains to be seen on Sunday – French electro duo Daft Punk are among the frontrunners for this year’s Grammys, considered to be among the music world’s most prestigious awards, with four nominations including Best Album and Best Record.
Seventeen-year-old New Zealand sensation Lorde also got four nods including Best Record and Best Song for her hit ‘Royals’ though she was surprisingly snubbed in the Best New Artist category.
Named 2013 Artist of the Year by Billboard magazine, Bruno Mars is also competing for Best Record and Best Song with ‘Locked Out of Heaven’. Other runners-up for Best Song include Katy Perry with ‘Roar’ and Pink with ‘Just Give Me a Reason’.
One of the big surprises in the Best Album category is the nomination of American singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles with her fourth studio album ‘The Blessed Unrest’. She will be up against multiple Grammy winner Taylor Swift nominated for ‘Red’.
Bareilles’ song ‘Brave’ is also in the run for Best Solo Pop Performance.
And though it didn’t make it in the Album of the Year category, David Bowie’s first new album in 10 years, ‘The Next Day’, got two major nominations, including Best Rock album.
The 56th Grammy Awards are held on January 26 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
