Google Street View car returns to Ottawa.
OTTAWA — The Google Street View car has returned to Ottawa for the first time since 2009. Sightings of the vehicle have been coming in from residents who’ve seen it roaming the streets of the capital this week.
The vehicle, a Subaru, is equipped with a tall camera mount that takes 360 degree photos of the city’s streets for use with the Street View function of Google Maps.
“Re-driving areas for refreshed imagery is something that we do from time to time as part of our effort to provide our users with the richest, most up-to-date maps possible,” said Aaron Brindle of Google.
