Germany's BMW sold 1.67 million vehicles last year, up 14 per cent

FRANKFURT - Germany's BMW AG says the number of vehicles it sold rose by 14.2 per cent in 2011 compared with the previous year.
The company says Monday it sold a record 1.67 million vehicles under its BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce brands.
The BMW brand, the company's mainstay, sold 12.8 per cent more cars and SUVs — a total of 1.38 million. Rolls-Royce increased unit sales by 30.5 per cent with 3,538 cars sold worldwide, breaking a sales record from 1978.
Company marketing chief Ian Robertson says it was "an outstanding year" for the company.
