CBC News-
One person is confirmed dead after a fiery crash on the southbound lanes of the Don Valley Parkway Thursday morning.
Toronto EMS said the crash happened at 11:20 a.m. on the DVP near the Gerrard Street Bridge.
CBC News reporter Jasmin Seputis was driving on the DVP at the time and saw the car burning at the roadside.
“What I saw was a car completely engulfed in flames, you can’t even tell what kind of a vehicle it was,” she reported.
"It’s certainly creating a lot of traffic chaos on the DVP."
Seputis also said the fire sent plumes of thick black smoke over the roadway before the blaze was extinguished.
Reporting from the scene Thursday afternoon, CBC's Nil Koksal said the car, now covered by a tarp, is completely burned.
"Calls came in to police dispatchers saying that a BMW was travelling at very high and dangerous speeds but that has yet to be confirmed," she reported.
"Construction workers in the area said one driver stopped and got out of their car to try and pull the victim from the wreckage but was unable to do so."
Police have not confirmed if the victim was male or female.
The crash closed the DVP in both directions for most of the day. By early evening all lanes had been reopened.
