Canada's oldest known person dies at 113
Canada's oldest known person dies at 113.
Cora Hansen, Canada's oldest known person, died at the age of 113 in Alberta on Wednesday morning.
Hansen was born on March 25, 1899, and she credited her longevity to good genes, regular walks and a lifestyle that avoided cigarettes and alcohol.
Hansen's good health allowed her to live on her own for nearly a century before moving into a care home.
Up until 2010, she led a relatively active life, but she became bed-ridden in May of that year.
Hansen, who was born in Minnesota and traced her lineage to Norway, became Canada's most senior citizen in December.
She rode a horse-drawn carriage to her family's homestead in 1912. Hansen lived in Medicine Hat, Alta.
In a 2007 chat with the Medicine Hat News, she said her life was in God's hands.
"I didn't drink or anything like that. I lived a plain life," she told the newspaper.
She leaves behind a daughter, two grandchildren and one great-grandson.
