Burned body discovered near Centennial College
Police are investigating the discovery of a burned male body in a field behind Centennial College’s Scarborough campus.
A security guard at the college found the body while it was still on fire in the field, located near Ashtonbee Rd. and Warden Ave., around 9:45 p.m.
Fire crews rushed to the location and extinguished the flames, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Though police are still determining the cause of the incident, they believe it was accidental.
“He was residing in a metal structure similar to a dumpster,” said Staff Sgt. Debra Houston. “He wasn’t living in there for too long.”
Police believe the man accidentally set himself on fire while sleeping beside a propane gas heater found inside the structure.
“It’s still under investigation,” said Houston. “But we haven’t found anything that looked suspicious.” http://metronews.ca
