Building permits rise in October
CBC News
The value of building permits issued by municipalities rose 11.9 per cent to $6.3 billion in October, Statistics Canada reported Tuesday.
The increase followed three straight months of declines. Statistics Canada said applications for non-residential buildings were largely responsible for the increase.
Demand for those permits was strongest in Ontario, as well as in Saskatchewan and Newfoundland and Labrador.
The largest decline came in Alberta, which saw applications fall for the second month.
The value of non-residential permits rose by 32.8 per cent, to $2.7 billion.
Much of that was institutional building in Ontario and industrial facilities in Quebec, Alberta and Manitoba.
The value of residential permits slipped 0.1 per cent to $3.6 billion, largely due to declines in both multi-family and single-family dwellings in Alberta and multi-family dwellings in Nova Scotia.
