BlackBerry maker faces technical glitches for 3rd day
|
The Canadian Press-BlackBerry users across the world faced another day of technical glitches on Wednesday as text and email services in numerous countries ran into further trouble.
The outage seemed to spread to Canada briefly in the early morning as email and text services stopped operating for about half an hour on at least one major carrier before they appeared to return to normal.
A representative for Bell wasn't immediately able to confirm whether there was a brief outage for some of its users, and a RIM spokeswoman did not immediately respond.
Research in Motion Ltd. (TSX:RIM), maker of the popular smartphone device, has been struggling to repair what it says was a failure within the company's own infrastructure.
A transition to a back-up switch did not function as tested, causing a large backlog of data.
The outage initially affected users in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and some areas of South America, though it has since spread to affect some users in Asian markets including Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and India.
RIM has about 70 million BlackBerry subscribers around the world
