Apple releases fix for iPhone battery bug
|
CBC News-
Apple has released an update to fix a battery-draining bug as well as security vulnerabilities in the newest version of its mobile operating system.
The company issued iOS 5.0.1 Thursday, a week after admitting that a problem with iOS 5 was shortening the battery life of iPhones, iPads and iPods using the software. Many users had been complaining about the problem.
In addition to fixing "bugs affecting battery life," Apple said the update adds touch gestures for the original iPad (to help users switch between applications), resolves bugs with its "documents in the cloud" service and improves voice recognition for Australian users.
The company also posted a bulletin describing several security vulnerabilities that are fixed by the update.
Apple first released the latest operating system, which comes with the new iPhone 4S, on Oct. 12, 2011. The mobile software was also available for the iPhone 4 and 3GS, both iPad models and later versions of the iPod Touch.
