Air Canada, flight attendants have tentative deal
|
CBC News-Air Canada has reached a tentative deal with the union representing about 6,800 flight attendants, the airline said Monday.
No details will be released until the contract is approved by the members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees and the airline's board.
The agreement "maintains industry-leading compensation and benefits for Air Canada's flight attendants while ensuring the long-term sustainability of the airline," company senior vice-president of customer service Susan Welscheid said in a news release.
The flight attendants called in a conciliator in June after Jeff Taylor, president of the Air Canada group in CUPE, complained that the airline "seems intent on pushing for unreasonable concessions."
Air Canada faced a three-day strike by customer service workers in June that ended when the parties reached a tentative agreement — later approved — in the third day of the walkout.
The deal was reached shortly after the federal government tabled back-to-work legislation.
