‘Curvy’ Mississauga penthouse price breaks Toronto suburb record
|
Daily Brew
The most expensive condo in Toronto's suburbs now sits atop a building that, to some, may look like it got crushed by the fist of Godzilla during an epic battle with King Kong.
But for fans of the Absolute World Towers' curvy architecture, it should come as no surprise that the topmost unit at the Mississauga, Ont. address has recently been listed for a bank account-busting $3.2 million.
While that figure would hardly raise eyebrows in the expensive Toronto market, the pricey penthouse ushers in a new high for the suburban regions outside the city.
As the Toronto Star reports, last April a luxury unit in Oakville sold for $2.7 million, while a Markham penthouse held the previous record last October when it sold for $2.1 million.
But neither building has generated the same amount of buzz as the Absolute, its avant-garde design the product of an international competition. A Beijing firm won the opportunity to design the condominium, whose wavy lines earned it the nickname "Marilyn Monroe" and proved so popular investors commissioned a second identical tower next door.
Although the building won't be completed for another four months, an Argentinean businessman snapped up the penthouse in question several years ago. According to his real estate agent, Sam McDadi, the man is now looking to unload the property after plans to relocate to the area fell through.
Selling points for the unit include a private elevator, four parking spots, and a 180-view of Lake Ontario. Interior perks in the 4,200 square foot condo range from three bedrooms, a personal gym, wine cellar, and a completely automated system for everything from music and lighting to security.
In comparison, Canada's most expensive condo unit — a 9,000 square foot stunner perched atop the brand new Four Seasons Hotel Private Residences in Toronto — recently sold to an international buyer for $28 million.
