More Information:
The Rotary Club of Toronto Skyline (“RCTS”) invites Toronto’s music lovers to attend its Battle of the Bands – Sky Battle – at 8 p.m. on January 17th, 2013 at the Hard Rock Café on Yonge-Dundas Square. Advanced $15 tickets can be purchased in-person from Rotate This (http://www.rotate.com) or online via Eventbrite
(http://skymusic.eventbrite.ca).
Proceeds from Sky Battle will benefit STEP Cambodia’s water, sanitation, and hygiene (“WASH”) program. Completion of the WASH program will enable over 1,500 primary and secondary students in the Lveate area (a small village in Kampong Cham province) to have access to clean drinking water and sanitation facilities, including toilets. The winner of Sky Battle, as chosen by a panel of industry judges, will be given the honour of headlining RCTS’s annual Toronto Wing Festival this spring. The distinguished judges include Renan Yildizdogan, singer of Stone River and President of Gypsy Soul Records; Mark Mizzoni, owner of Warrior Artist Management; and Gavin Slate, a member of the Canadian indie elite who released his latest EP, “Life as a
Salesman,” to critical acclaim.
Bands lined up to battle onstage include: Cousin Rufu, a local band with a self-described “pop rock soul” sound; Camel Tones, another local band whose self-titled debut EP was released in November, 2010; and The Jones, an indie-rock band that has been a mainstay of the Toronto underground music scene since 2006 and released their second album, “Midnight,” in early 2012.
