Rock.Paper.Sistahz is a festival that consists of visual art, dance, music, theatre, spoken word and food. This year's festival includes a fashion show, improv performances, a Soul Train tribute and more. Check out the schedule below, and keep an eye on their website for updates.
Juke Joint: May 7 to 11 Artists of different disciplines and levels of experience are paired together to do live, short improvisations Venue: During selected festival events. Price: N/A
Little Dresses for Africa Fashion Show: Friday, May 4 from 6:30 p.m. – 9 p.m. Presented in collaboration with Think Magazine. There is a red carpet, runway and a special pre-show reception. Venue: TBA. Admission: TBA
Jr Juke Joint: Saturday, May 5 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Young and emerging artists are paired together in live, short improvisations. Venue: Artscape Farmer’s Market Admission: Free
SpeakEasy: Saturday, May 5 from11 p.m. - 1 a.m. Spoken-word, comedy, and other live word performances from artists like Naomi Abiola, Jude Delsoin, Najla Edwards, Helen Yohannes, and more. Venue: Ellington’s Café. Admission: PWYC ($10 suggested)
Uth Daze: Sunday, May 6 from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. This multi-art festival features performances, workshops, and creative activities for all ages. Venue: Artscape Wychwood Barns Admission: Free
Multi.Art Launch: Monday, May 7 from 8 p.m. – 10 p.m. A reception to launch an art installation curated by Sandra Brewster, featuring works from a mix of visual artists. Venue: TBD. Admission: PWYC ($10 suggested)
Play NiCe: Tuesday, May 8 - Thursday, May 10 from 8 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. Performances and readings from all new plays by emerging and established artists, including Keeping Mum by Mason Haigh, A Face Like Mine by Asanda Phewa (with the original South African actors) and more. soooOOUL TRAIN!: Friday, May 11 from 8 p.m. – 10 p.m. Dance artists perform interactive and multi-cultural interpretations of Soul Train movement of the 1970s. Venue: Artscape Wychwood Barns. Admission: PWYC ($10 suggested)
Wrap It Up!: Friday, May 11 from 10 p.m. - 12 a.m. Finish off the festival with a dance party, featuring music from DJ LiLee (aka actor/singer Abena Malika) and a guest performer. Venue: b current studio 251. Admission: PWYC
