In July 2007, Toronto City Council adopted two new policies as part of the People, Dogs and Parks Strategy to address the need for balance among users within the City’s Parks, Green-Spaces and Waterfront Areas. Commercial Dog Walker Permit Policy (Pdf, 56KB - Updated Feb 1, 2009) and Dogs Off-Leash Policy (Pdf, 49KB - Updated Jan 28, 2010) were refined in 2009 and 2010 respectively to provide a consistent approach to the provision of off-leash areas within the City’s Parks System while taking into consideration the interests of a variety of park users, including dog owners, and commercial dog walkers.
Commercial Dog Walkers
Do you have a dog-walking business? All people who walk from four (4) to a maximum of six (6) dogs, at any one time, in city parks, green spaces or waterfront areas must obtain a Commercial Dog Walker Permit.
Animal licensing
Don't forget! The Toronto Municipal Code Chapter 349, requires that all dogs and cats owned by City of Toronto residents must be licensed and wearing a tag. By licensing your dog or cat, Toronto Animal Services will make every effort to reunite you with your lost pet.
