Mayor Rob Ford's Community Clean-up Day registration Once you register, make arrangements to get your litter bags and you’re ready to go. Why is registration important? Registration is important because City crews need to know where to go on Sunday, April 22 to pick up the litter your group collects. If you don’t register, then the bags filled with litter left behind won’t be picked up and this can lead to problems. Other people might add garbage to the pile and, in addition to this being illegal; it creates a mess in the neighbourhood. If you decide to clean a park, you will need to bring the litter bags to the nearest street and/or intersection to ensure collection trucks and crews are able to pick up the collected garbage. Download a poster Mayor Rob Ford's Community Clean-up Poster 2012 (PDF). How should I prepare for this event? Don’t forget to wear appropriate clothing for the day such as gloves, boots and perhaps a hat. Items such as bug repellant, bottled water, sunscreen and a pail for sharp objects can be useful. What do I do with recyclables collected with the litter? If possible, the City encourages you to put any recyclables collected in their institutional or residential recycling containers/carts/bins. The City of Toronto Solid Waste Management Collection staff does not collect any of the items listed in SCHEDULE C TO CH. 844 PROHIBITED WASTE of the TORONTO MUNICIPAL CODE. Here is the link to the bylaw, http://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/municode/1184_844.pdf Looking for more ways to reduce waste and do your part? Check out the City’s Community Environment Days. The 2012 season runs from April to October. Watch for your local neighbourhood event. Clean Toronto Together. It's up to all of us!
