More Information:
Unite to ignite the longest, darkest night…celebrate the solstice community-style in a luminescent lantern-lit procession through Toronto’s Kensington Market. Saturday, December 21st at 7:00pm.
In collaboration with local community members and performers including the Samba Squad, Shadowland Theatre, Clay & Paper, Native Men’s Residence, Richard Underhill and the Kensington Horns, students from the Centre for Indigenous Theatre and many more, Red Pepper Spectacle Arts facilitates the 24th Annual hand-made street celebration to beckon the return of the sun.
Join the crowd at Oxford and Augusta (just south of College) at 7:00pm for the beginning of the procession...and go with the flow. See theatrical scenarios and the fiery finale at Alexandra Park just behind Scadding Court (Bathurst and Dundas).
The Kensington Market Winter Solstice is a non-profit, accessible community-based event. Bring a drum, bang a pan, wear a costume, carry a lantern - this is a participatory event.
Handmade and commercial-free since 1987.
