From the Canadian Opera Company comes a month of free afternoon concerts in the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre (at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts), featuring both up-and-coming young artists and musicians and established stars from all over the world. The concerts are divided into six distinct series:
Vocal Series
A Celebration of Canadian Art Song March 6, 12-1 p.m. With the world premiere of Sewing the Earthworm by Brian Harman, and David Passmore’s Seven “Dark Lady” Sonnets.
Northern Landscapes: Art Songs of Scandinavia March 20, 12-1 p.m. With the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music, directed by Steven Philcox.
Jazz Series
My Foolish Heart March 7, 5:30-6:30 p.m. With trumpeter/flugelhornist Guido Basso and pianist/bassist Don Thompson.
Chamber Music Series
The Accordion and All Its Charms March 8, 12-1 p.m. With accordionist Jelena Milojevic.
Dance Series
Ballet Express! March 14, 12-1 p.m. With the Ballet Jörgen company.
Piano Virtuoso Series
Pictures at an Exhibition March 21, 12-1 p.m. With award-winning Russian-Canadian pianist Alexander Seredenko.
Bach and Harbison March 29, 12-1 p.m. With American pianist Ryan MacEvoy McCullough.
World Music Series
Tango! Homage to Astor Piazzolla March 27, 12-1 p.m. With Ensemble Vivant and bassist Dave Young.
